Advent Spiral and Winter Solstice - Spirale de l'Avent et solstice d'hiver

As we move closer to Christmas, I thought I would share some pictures of our Advent spiral.

À l'approche de Noël, j'ai pensé partager quelques photos de notre spirale de l'Avent.

Following the stones, crystals and rocks (first week), came some branches, pine cones and hay (to represent plants for second week), and then a little wool lamb (to represent animals for third week). For our last week of Advent, we added our beeswax nativity set (to represent humans).

We were very happy to get a gentle snowfall just in time for the beginning of winter solstice.

Handmade Holiday: In the Kitchen

This weekend our kitchen was filled with the most heavenly smells of ginger and spice and all things nice! We prepared jars of mincemeat and homemade cocoa mix as well as our traditional Christmas cake (dried fruit, almonds and spices).

We also tried the Honey Carrot Fruitcake from the latest Rhythm of the Home and it is amazing! It makes three loaves so it's great for gifting.

I take this opportunity to thank Tonya for hosting a Handmade Holiday this year. It has been wonderfully inspiring!

Handmade Holiday: Cowls and Birds

This week for my Handmade Holiday I am on to my third Soulemama Wintry Cowl. Loving this easy pattern! I also knit an adult cowl in Quince & Co. Puffin (colorway Sabine) using this pattern.

Inspired by this post and by this book, I have made several little fabric birds. I have also made some fabric ornaments using some seasonal Spoonflower fabrics.

And happy with these, just out of the kiln...

Weekending - Week-end

This weekend was spent indoors. We had a windstorm (sorry, I didn't take any pictures!) followed by lots of rain and cold. Lulu and Papa are in Montreal for a short trip to see a play (Wigwam, for Lulu's Grade 3 Native Culture Bloc), the Nutcracker and to visit with friends. So it was just Pip, Lolo and I. Our activities revolved around the wood stove and the Christmas tree. The Christmas tree has become the new favourite place to crawl under and play.

Preparing for winter - Préparation pour l'hiver

The girls have been cutting paper snowflakes. The falling leaves on our mobile have been replaced by falling snowflakes.

The grass is still green and it's raining hard, but we are still hoping for a white Christmas - L'herbe est encore verte et il pleut très fort, mais nous espérons toujours un Noël blanc...

Inspired by this post and with the help of this book, Lulu and I made lip balm. It was a success! What a perfect activity for my 8 year old!
