Fall leaves and pumpkins - Feuilles d'automne et citrouilles

This week, we looked after the beautiful fall leaves we had collected while away on our trip to the continent...

We made some fall paintings using the Shaking Leaves story by Kristie Burns found in A Year of Waldorf Watercolor Stories.

Peinture d'automne à partir de l'histoire Shaking Leaves (feuilles tremblantes) de Kristie Burns dans A Year of Waldorf Watercolor Stories.

Lulu then felt inspired to paint a pumpkin...

Lulu a ensuite voulu peindre cette citrouille...

Our nature table is filling up with fall treasures...

In our kitchen, we have been preparing some halloween treats: pumpkin pies (recipe found in this book) and  Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies (thank you to my sister for the idea!).

And last, but not least, a nice warming curry inspired by this recipe...

Handmade Holiday 2011: Breakfast Boards

This week for my Handmade Holiday, I made breakfast/snack boards in animal shapes. I was really inspired by the ones made by Our Ash Grove a while ago and was so excited to finally be able to make some myself, now that I have a new scroll saw!

Trip to the Continent - Voyage sur le continent

Over the past few weeks, we have been visiting friends and family in Montreal and Ottawa. During our time in Montreal, we saw a wonderful play in the sweetest little puppet theatre Théâtre de l'Illusion.

I had the chance to hear a very inspiring talk given by Irène François from the Rudolf Steiner College in San Fransisco on Story Tales and Myths. The conference was organized at very magical place in Montreal, La grande ourse.

We stopped at Épicerie Fleur. I love this place! It is so typical of Montreal and so vintage!

We also managed to fit in a visit to the Montreal Botanical Gardens to see the pumpkins and Esmeralda the witch.

We had lots of fun playing in the leaves and admiring the fall colours. We do miss trees on the Islands...

I did some fabric and yarn shopping at my favorite shop in Montreal Éffiloché and in Ottawa at Wabi-Sabi

In Ottawa, I found some great buttons and antique embroidered linens at a fabric and yarn flea market.

Yarn Along

Joining in the Yarn Along this week with a new project, a Simple Slouchy Hat in Berroco Flicker. I just finished reading You're Not the Boss of Me: Brat-Proofing Your Four- to Twelve-Year-Old Child by Betsy Brown Braun, a book that a friend recommended. I did find many helpful tips in this book and I think I may return to it in future.

Interesting Monday Posts - À prendre en note Lundi

Just a quick post to spread the news that Donna Simmons from Christopherus Homeschool Resources will be a guest on Catherine's blog Monday October 10, discussing Relaxed Homeschooling. It should be very interesting... She will also be answering questions until October 15.

Also, Tonya invites us again this year to participate in creating a Handmade Holiday 2011. She will be sharing ideas on her blog every Monday.

Sunday we met local children's book illustrator Rogé.

In English, Rainmaker is another very colourful book.

Fall knits, apple cake and books

Just finished my Oatmeal Pullover in Quince & Co 's Puffin. Love this sweater and this yarn! Such a fast knit and comfy, squishy, warm yarn. Although I did not at first intend to knit it in this ever so popular Carrie's Yellow, when I saw it in the shop, I could not resist...

Also in time for fall, I finished this plain and simple knit scarf in Rowan British Sheep Breeds Chunky Undyed- Steel Grey Suffolk. Beautiful wool!

I have also been busy preparing some little quilted gifts with this lovely fabric...

In the kitchen, we have been preserving more applesauce and spiced apple butter sweetened with honey...

We also baked an apple cake using Nicole's recipe (only replacing the sugar with honey) and read one of our favourite books for fall....

The Apple Cake is a beautifully illustrated book about giving and receiving.

While on the subject of fall reading for children, another one of our favourite books is this magical story that reminds us of our own little Pip...

As we say goodbye to September and hello to October, I leave you with some pictures of the beautiful weather we have enjoyed over the past month.
